At a time when college bands sit at a crossroads of cultural, societal and economic changes, our 2018 conference is dedicated to reflecting upon our past and envisioning our future.

As a division, we are eager to engage with the life of bands both small and large. Through thoughtful performance and discussion we seek to address our current challenges and to re- imagine what “the college band” and the “college band director” can be.

 

Charles Ives was a free-spirited optimist, and his ideas can be a guiding force as we confront the challenges of our own time. His close association with Yale University and with bands makes this an opportune moment to incorporate his visionary idealism into our explorations.
